| I have fixed 3 computers so far with the same symptoms: pc it was extremely slow and crashed continually. The file taskman.exe could not be deleted: it created a copy of itself in windows and system32 folders. The only way I could take rid of it it was starting safe mode, deleting all copies of taskman.exe and removing all suspicious start up programs in msconfig. | yeah, while runnign it i noticed that if you scroll through the list using the direction keys, its cpu consumption will keep going up untill it maxes. yeah... that can be bad. The cpu load is caused by the constant updating it does as you pass each process. Since you technically, well actualy you do select every one you go by, and it loads info about that process every time you scroll by one. Otherwise, its a great program. Blue Zero | |

A Hook is a Windows internal function that can forge a list of files on your hard drive, for example by manipulating the dir command. | Well, I highly doubt that someone using the actual program wouldn´t know what´s its name, so, all of those playing "smartass" could spare us some time. In my case, I had TWO different WORMS, "taskman.exe", and "TASKMAN.exe", 16KB, that did not appear as running process in STM. You can find some information about it in the link I provided. | I have to agree with otto and yonik, I had recently tried to uninstall taskman. Yet it would not allow me to........safe mode was the only option that i could figure out...but in otherwords it is an pretty gud program...just minnor obligation!!! Gotcha | |

| On my comp there appears every now and again a taskmgr.exe in c:/documentsand settings/(username)/Start menu/programs/startup folder. Even if deleted, it reappears, when I launch any program. The "bad guy" which recreates it is taskman.exe, 15k located in C:/Windows (and in some other folders). That file always recreates itself. It can be erased but reappears the next moment - the virus is giving care to this file... I didn't find program tools that identify or eliminate it. I'll try with safe boot, hope I'll be able to delete once for all this hook. This variant is surely virus. Teo | |
