Product: µTorrent

Support: Help link   Update link   Uninstall tool

Company: BitTorrent (bittorrent.com)

File: uTorrent.exe

A peer to peer torrenting program, µTorrent runs as a background process by default. µTorrent is a BitTorrent client that allows you to share torrent files with other users. When you load a torrent into the client, it syncs with other users that have the full version of the file you are torrenting, and downloads pieces of the file from many users. Downloads are automatically shared with other users. Founded in 2004, BitTorrent has introduced several peer-to-peer torrent clients. They continue to update and research the peer-to-peer torrent protocol for future developments.www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/utorrent.exe.html
If you want a detailed security rating about your uTorrent.exe (and all other running background processes) read the following user opinions, and download the free trial version of Security Task Manager.

Note: Any malware can be named anything - so you should check where the files of the running processes are located on your disk. If a "non-Microsoft" .exe file is located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, then there is a high risk for a virus, spyware, trojan or worm infection! Check it out!

Remove the history and the icon,Then try to delete the.exe file sigi
I downloaded the software Torrentprivacy which contains a private version of theirs of uTorrent, the software didn't work, it was a nightmare, when I used their uninstall the software is still left on the hard drive, including uTorrent.exe, I was able to delete some files, but not uTorrent.exe, it says I don't have access to it. I can't remove the Torrentprivacy directory because that exe file is in it. I also can't download the normal version of uTorrent because it says there already is a version on my computer running, and to shut ti down first, I can't so I am totally messed up Stephen Smarsh
p2p client, use with caution -
steals loads of info from your computer - very difficult to uninstall Vernon D
It is invasive and dangerous program. I'm having trouble getting rid of the .exe file. I've removed all the other files from the program Anytime a program won't let you remove it from your system it sends up red flags!! Will try what sigi recommends and see what happens. This is dangerous. Highly recommend not downloading it. SmitE
Opens up ports in your firewall. I run PC Tools Internet Security and I deleted all files download, uninstalled all filed download by Add/Remove Program then I opened System Restore (did a backup first). When Windows finally booted up PC Tools Behavior Guard told me about the external firewall ports (3) and utorrent.exe, and some others I'd like to not discuss. When you are trying new things or being or going to the Bay you have to be super careful. ~Network Admin  See also: Link Jake (Cisco - Network Administrator)
I just downloaded utorrent.exe from their official download page and it was in fact another exe with security shield or something that installs viruses and make you buy it so it will get rid of them.  See also: Link Jose
I removed it successfully a few times by running Regedit snd deleting all instances of uTorrent. then recheck. Then you're able to delete the visible shortcut and .exe file. This only takes a few minutes. The program can lock up or make your PC so slow that I found Regedit to be the quickest way to overcome this invasive program. Keith
Been using for a long time , harmless , depending on what you download. Sagar
Most malicious versions of uTorrent are "Private versions" downloaded from adult or ghost sites. Always download uTorrent Pro from Bittorrent Inc. web site. Other "private" versions are down level versions loaded with malware.  See also: Link Steven M. Corley
I have used utorrent.exe off & on for many years. it is my favorite p2p file sharing program. it is very small but does a great job! maryann kokoski
Been running it for ages. Heavy on resources, so slows down computer. More likely to get virus from a torrent. Be careful what sites you use. Mr. Moley 67
I've used uTorrent for over 10 years with no problems! You just have to watch which version you download because the newer ones are a bit bloatware & uncheck the install toolbar stuff when installing the main program.
I recently switched from the free Malware-Antimalware program to the paid version. I am downloading a book and some movies using uTorrent. The notifications blocking malicious websites from the Malware-Antimalware program are coming so fast I can not get the IP's and port numbers from them to list here for you. Most of them are blocked upload viruses or websites. This is incredibly scary as I have been using this program for years. I have run checks from, Spybot, AVAST, AVG, and Malware-Antimalware. None have picked up any viruses, yet. Highly cover yourself if you are using uTORRENT. As I type it is still blocking upload after upload. USE EXTREME CAUTION!!!! BIG K
Been using uTorrent Pro version without a problem for years. However I only download from reliable sources that then run though uTorrent.
great bit torrent downloader torrey
It is a p2p client, so it is normal that it downloads information from your computer (files that you download are shared, it is called "seeding") and open ports. To uninstall it, if you really want to, I recommend Max Uninstaller. It is not free, but it is the best program to uninstall program and all their files left behind. One thing that is strange, it is certified by Sysmantec, but it is a suspicious process per Sysmantec. Meowdoleon
I have been using it for few years never cause any problem. it's harmless program just download from official website and have it scanned before installing. Adi
Downloads spyware
Not itself dangerous but it does seem to allow some unwanted sites to access your computer if you let it.
