Daemon.exe runs in the background and detects any iso file accessed through Windows Explorer. It allows the file to be double-clicked and opened as if it was a true physical drive. Daemon Tools is distributed by Disc Soft Ltd. and supported by Microsoft. Founded in 2005, Disc Soft's primary products are various Daemon software versions.
If you want a detailed security rating about your daemon.exe (and all other running background processes) read the following user opinions, and download the free trial version of Security Task Manager.
Note: Any malware can be named anything - so you should check where the files of the running processes are located on your disk. If a "non-Microsoft" .exe file is located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, then there is a high risk for a virus, spyware, trojan or worm infection! Check it out!

Daemon tools, despite the name is not dangerous on the surface. There is debate over the fact that it uses RootKit like kernel hooks and a hidden registry key to perform its duties. Daemon tools is used to bypass CD copy protection for the purpose of creating backup disks and other "uses". I use happliy. See also: Link benszoko

It now comes with adware and spyware. After intalling it on my notebook using Window Vista, Window Defender warned some misbehaved process, hidden registry key, spyware and adware. I try to delete the process but it seems to still run as background process. The hard drive works all the time. peter

Kept telling me I had a missing file to reload the program - what program? After much research found many relating similar problems with DaemonProcess. Uninstalled it but it fouled up my Norton 360, my Firefox, and has a file error for Windows 7. Computer has been "down" for about 2 weeks. Using Win 8.1 now but not happy. Have not been able to get these problems resolved through the websites. Lucky
