Some DVD and Blu-ray drives made for installation in computers offer a USB infrared remote-control so that the drive can be operated remotely like a DVD or Blu-ray player device. CyberLink's PowerDVD software, an industry-leading product for playing and recording of DVD and Blu-ray content, includes this module to enable PowerDVD to interface with the drive's remote control. (CyberLink also offers two remote control units of its own.) When present, the PDVDServ.exe module installs with PowerDVD and activates at system startup, running in the background.References have been found about PowerDVD versions 5.0 through 7.0 installing this module, but the product is currently at Version 14. CyberLink's product support web pages list no version older than 8.0 as supported and it is not clear whether this module exists in versions newer than 7. CyberLink is now offering a product called "PowerDVD Remote" that allows iOS and Android smart devices to act as a remote control; this product only interacts with PowerDVD versions 11 and 12.Some users have reported this module installing in directories associated with Roxio software products in computers where no CyberLink product was in use. Since Roxio produces Drive Letter Access software for playing and burning content on DVD and Blu-ray drives, it might use this module to interface with drives equipped with USB remotes. There are also some reports of Windows XP Pro users having this module preventing their screensaver from activating, but this may happen only when a wireless keyboard is in use.

Remote Control background application for CyberLink\'s PowerDVD version 5 and above. Enables you to use a remote control with your DVD drive if your drive came with one. Not required if you don\'t have a remote control, or don\'t wish to use one overcloked
This program was included {with others from Cyber Link for my DVD} when I bought my new notebook ...and IMHO it APPEARS to be a harmless program for my DVD player/Recorder. Does anyone else have more info? Thank you. See also: Link Deb

Prevents my screensaver to start on my Winsows XP Pro system. Screensaver run fine as soon as PDVDServ.exe is eliminated as a startup item in MSCONFIG. Ralf Lenkler
Slows down system while it polls for remote control. Does nothing. Dac
NOT "totally harmless"!! This file may block your screensaver from kicking in under XP pro. Good way to burn up your monitor if you are not careful. After much trial and error with disabling indivicual processes I found that PDVDServ.exe was responsible for preventing my (standard XP) screensaver from running. PDVDServ.exe is a process belonging to PowerDVD which allows a user to plug in a remote control. This program is non-essential process to the running of the system, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems. Scott

This is a process belonging to PowerDVD. Be not scared this process is not dangerous, but can slow down the system (if any screensavers need to have more space you can terminate it) GC
It is totally useless for computer mounted DVD players unless you have a remote controller for yours Richard Hudon
This program/file disabled my screen saver function. Once I deleted it from the start up my screen saver worked. Maybe it has something to do with the fact I am using a wireless mouse and keyboard? Ron

It requested internet access through uorrent, when I blocked it I could no longer browse to facebook, google or yahoo until I allowed it to access again. Why should a remote control program need internet access and why would blocking it cause websites to be blocked? Kitiara
Pretty much ZERO usefulness, other than to use up CPU cycles! I've ALWAYS been able to use a remote w/ PowerDVD WITHOUT this running! geo
