It was part of the bloatware that came installed on my HP tablet PC. This is all I can say: I was having a problem with my keyboard becoming non-functional after using my laptop in tablet mode. (This can be fixed by turning off the computer, removing all power sources, and then restarting. What a pain in the butt.) I stopped having this problem after I went into the services console and diabling hpqwmiex. Pat O.

The hpqWMiEx.exe service is responsible for the HP Wireless Assistant on HP notebooks. If you disable this service in the service section, the Wireless Assistant won't start up, so that you can't use wireless connections anymore. This implies that if you see the service HPWAMain.exe running on your system, leave this service running. ;-) Cobra

It's part of HP utilities like HP Wireless Assistant. HP Protect Tools, HP Quick Play Buttons, etc. If you don't need/want the (doubtly useful?) functionalities provided by these utilities, you can safely disable the service. Parsec

Tried disabling it and can still use wifi button, nothing bad has happened sofar Bobbzorzen
My guess is that this is the program which allows the "airplane" function key (F12) to toggle WiFi on and off. If the service is disabled or the file deleted after WiFi was turned off using the key, then naturally it would remain turned off after the disabling or deletion. Jeff, in Minneapolis
This file can easily become infected with malware, and is unnecessary on desktop computers, to get wireless. Remove it only if it is suspiciously using network. Mine was somehow infected with a trojan, so I had a hell of a time actually removing it. I noticed this when I was having slow internet, disconnects, high ping to games, by going to task manager, resource monitor. Wesley |
