| The ThinkVantage button will not work for Lenovo users, preventing you from entering a pre-boot Rescue and Recovery operation. Would not remove it if you own a Lenovo. | |
| The tponscr.exe process is used to configure and use the hotkeys found on IBM Thinkpads. If this process is not running the Hotkeys will not work, so unless it is causing problems on your system you should leave this process running. See also: Link IBM User | |

| Good file Provided by Lenovo Think Pad Technologies TM. It provides an onscreen display of your volume whenever you use the built in volume buttons. If you get an error every time you use a built in volume key saying that tponscr.exe has crashed but would like to have this onscreen display go to the link in this description. | This file basically shows you the volume levels, both the pop up and tray icon. Ending this process will prevent the pc from drawing the image(bar, graph etc) and remove the tray icon. Not recommended if you are not sure about keyboard hot keys Shadowcreeper | |
| I have a ThinkPad with this cpu consuming process running Andres | |
| can be either: if it's in '.../program files/lenovo/hotkey' it's the real one, if it's in a window directory and creating a file named 'verison.dll' in the roaming data folder, then it's most likely an adware trojan. right-click the entry in task manager and choose 'open file location' to find out where it is being run from. | |
| This file is only for the graphics that show up when you press a hotkey. Hotkeys still function even if you close this process. This process will often hog your CPU for no apparent reason. Safe to close. David | |
| One of my users uninstalled this thinking it was malware, and now cannot use his function hotkeys (cannot turn off/on Wi-fi) Jim | |
| uses so much cpu almost 50% Ahmad | |
| It's an Official Lenovo program but sometimes it uses a lot of CPU power the best thing to do is to uninstall it. See also: Link Throwaway | |
