program crash by faulty font
Typograf hangs up if I try to catalog a Font CD or preview fonts.
The reason is a defect font. To find the defect font, start Typograf in security modus 2 times:
1) Click Typograf icon while pressing the Shift key
2) Go to the directory with the defect font. Then Typograf will crashed.
3) Start Typograf again: Click Typograf icon while pressing the Shift key.
4) Repeat this until Typograf tell you the name of the defect font.
5) Delete or move this font. But on a CD it isn't possible. You only can ignore the folder which the defect font.
Some Fonts are printed only in a standard font
The previewing of fonts works. But the fonts are printed in a standard font (e.g. Arial).
The font is probable too complicatedly. Please click the "Printer Setup..." button in the Print dialog box. Search a option like "print text as graphic" or "print TrueType as bitmap". Please (de)activate this option.
Possibly you have installed and activated too many fonts. So too many fonts are in the RAM. Through this no resources are available for the display of further fonts. Depending on configuration Windows can manage 500 to 1000 fonts simultaneously. You should deinstall fonts or move fonts in font groups. If that not work, please move some of the previewed fonts in separate directory.
Only standard fonts or crossed out fonts are displayed

You have possibly installed and activated too many fonts. So too many fonts are in the RAM. Through this no resources are available for the display of further fonts. Depending on configuration Windows can manage 500 to 1000 fonts simultaneously. You should deinstall fonts you or move fonts in font groups.

Towards the end of a directory I got the message "filename".PFB cannot be created!
(reason: resource problems / defective font file)"
The reason seems to be not a defective font file but resource problems. The
resource consumption depends on number of fonts and the length of the
path. That error can occur if you preview more than 2000 ATM type 1 fonts or several thousand truetype fonts.
Solution: Divide the fonts in 2 directories to reduce the number of
previewed fonts. Or rename the directory to reduce the length of the
path.
Finding a TrueType font with a copy on paper
Who to find a TrueType font with a copy on paper? I don't know the font name.
Look for a typical letter of the font. For example the letter "S" and "A". Then click into the Typograf symbol bar on the setting button and enter you the desired letter ("SA") as new test example of the main window. Choose a sufficiently large type size here and a column number of 10 and more. Then go to the directory of all your fonts, fixed disk or CD-ROM. So you see a "SA" example for all your fonts. And you can find a font similar to your copy on paper.

How to preview, activate or print Postscript Fonts (Adobe type 1) with Typograf?
To be able to use type 1 Fonts under Windows 9x,Me,NT you need the free ATM Light. If the ATM Light is installed, then you can preview, activate or print type 1 fonts without having to install these.
TrueType and type 1 Fonts have the same quality. Windows NT converts type 1 Fonts into the TrueType format, if you install these at the system control.
how much fonts are in the memory?
Fonts are charging resources. Who to get information about the number of loaded fonts?
Windows supports uo to 1000 fonts in the RAM. But it better to install less the 100 fonts. Please start Typograf and move your mouse pointer over the Headline "Preview" with the blue triangle to see how many fonts are in the memory. Now you see on the status bar, how many fonts are installed and loaded.
comparing similar fonts
I have two identical fonts with different file size or quality. Which of them is better and wich should I delete?
If I click the Compare button, Typograf displays similar fonts to the just selected font. However, this comparison seems to me inaccurately.
Select the two Fonts (with pushed down Ctrl key). Then click on the Compare button. Here you find the most important data to be able to judge the quality. You must however decide which criteria are important to you.
fonts similarity report is inaccurate
The Typograf font comparison is based on the Panose or Fontklassen data which the font manufacturer stores in the font file. Many shareware and freeware fonts don't contain this information. So a sensible comparison isn't allways possible. Please choose the option "Metric" in the comparison window in this case. You can learn more about the comparison options in the Typograf help file.
installed fonts aren't displayed permanently
How can I make that the installed fonts are not displayed permanently?
If you don't want to see your installed fonts in the Typograf windows, please click the Options button. The click the "Font types" tab. Now you can deselect the option "TrueType (installed)".

Typograf don't show the installed fonts in Windows 2000. Is there a new version available?
Download the latest version and copy the expanded
files into your extisting Typograf directory (for example c:\program files\Typograf).

Which fonts are important to Windows and may not be deleted?
Windows and several programs need the Windows standard fonts (core fonts) Arial, Times New Roman, Courier New, Symbol and Marlett. These may not be uninstalled. The Marlett font is used for menus, dialog boxes and Windows typical symbols.
Where are the installed fonts which aren't in the Windows Font folder
I don't find some installed fonts in the Font folder c:\windows\fonts.
Please, move your mouse pointer over these fonts. Now you see in the status bar, in which directory you will find these fonts

It isn't mandatorily, that the installed fonts have to be in the Windows Font folder. But for a better order please select the option "Copy into the Windows Fonts folder" if you install a font.

How to change the start directory of Typograf?
To change the start folder for Typograf, please click the Favorites button (left from the directory field). Then click "Manage favorites...". Now you can change the properties of the Typograf start-up folder.
help file TYPOGRAF.HLP not found
There is an error message at the program start, that the help file TYPOGRAF.HLP can not be found.
Please check, whether the working directory is the same like the Typograf directory .
To change the working directory, please click with the RIGHT Mouse button on the Windows start button. Then click on Explorer. Click now up to the Typograf entry.
Click with the right mouse button on the Typograf shortcut. Click Properties on the context menu. In the dialog box you click on the register card. Change the working directory.
To hide the error message at the Typograf start you can deselect the "tip of the day" in the menu help.

How can I open another folder fast?
There are two possibilities for this:
1. Please click with the RIGHT mouse button on the Folder-opening button (on the right
besides the directory field) in the Typograf symbol bar. The latest opened folders are displayed now.

How to change the type size and column number to see or print more fonts (in the Typograf windows or per page)?
Typograf displayed more fonts or print more fonts per sheet prints by reducing the font size or by raising the number of columns. To chage that values for the display please click the Options button in the Typograf symbol bar. To change that values for printings please click the Print button in the Typograf symbol bar. Then click the Options tab to change the font size.
multi line displaying
Typograf displays only a line of text for every font. How can I view a multi-line body text for every font?
To display several lines text, click in the Typograf symbol bar on "Zoom". If you select a font now, then you always see one text formatted in this font in the zoom window.

How to order the displayed fonts by name, size, width ...?
On the View menu, click Sort fonts by. You can sort displayed fonts by file (default option), name, directory, family, size, date, copyright, number of kerning pairs and width.
If You open a new folder (by clicking ), all fonts will be sorted by file name, because thats the fastest way to preview fonts. To sort fonts by your favorite criterion after opening a new folder, click the View menu and make sure there is a check mark next to the Sort after changing folder command.
To separate font types (TrueType, preview), click the View menu and make sure there is a check mark next to the Subdivide font types command.
manual still is encoded
The manual still is encoded, although I unlocked Typograf.
Please download the decoded manual from the web area for registered Typograf users. You need your user data (which you have received with the registration) for the access to the Typograf internet resources.

How to print the keyboard layout of a font?
Click the font which keyboard layout set you want to print. Click the Print button. Select the keyboard layout on the General tab. (Scroll to the right)
To select more than one font, press and hold down the CTRL key, and then click the fonts you want. For each selected font the keyboard layout will be printed.

Typograf displays some fonts with check marks
Typograf always displays some fonts which with the preceding symbol "TT with check marks". But I didn't load these fonts.
Your Windows-Fonts directory seems to be rather untidy. The following trick helps here:
1. Start the Windows - Explorers.
2. Change to the directory C:\Windows\fonts.
If you click in the Explorer on this folder, your Font folder/Registry becomes tidied.
Please click "Info..." item on help menu to see which version do you
have. Please update to the latest Typograf version.

I have to many installed fonts. What can I do to save working memory or resources and not lose the overview?
Organize TrueType and Type 1 fonts by grouping fonts into convenient user-definied font groups (font sets) that can be activate or deactivate at any time.
Manage your fonts in the comfortable database.
Please click the Management button in the Typograf symbol bar to use font groups a database.
difference between loading and installing fonts
What is the difference between a previewed, loading and installed font?
A font can either
a) be not installed and not loaded
b) loaded
c) installed
a) not installed and not loaded fonts
E.g. these are fonts on CD-ROM. Well, these fonts aren't at your disposal under Windows. With Typograf you can preview, print, delete, load or install these fonts.
b) loaded fonts
With Typograf you can load a font. Then that fonts is available in all Windows applications, but only for the current Window session. Well, nothing is changed at your system. If you start Windows the next time everything looks just as it used to be.
Using the font group manager by clicking the icon on the taskbar you can quickly and easily load or unload font groups.
c) installed fonts
Installed TrueType fonts are loaded by Windows each time Windows starts. Therefore these fonts are available in all Windows applications.Installed TrueType fonts are in the Fonts folder C:\Windows\Fonts.
"out of system resources" error when adding fonts to the database
If I tried adding files to the database I immediately got the error
'out of system resources'
Typograf cannot create a font because either there is a defect font file or you added to many fonts.
If you added to many fonts (several thousand) at once, please add subdirectory #1 first, then subdirectory #2 and so on.
If a error appears: which font name is shown in the status bar (font management windows)? Perhaps that font can be defect. To find the bad font file, please start Typograf and go to the directory with these fonts. Does a error appears when you preview the fonts on CD-ROM? Please scroll to see each font.
to a font jump fast
I know the font nameand want to jump fastly to that font. More then hundred fonts are displayed.
Click the font list and type the font name. The font list jumps to the names now.
Fonts previewed with Typograf are also available into word processing
Why can I see the previewed fonts also in the font selection dialog of my word processing?
The previewed fonts are in the RAM. As long as you previewed fonts with Typograf you will see these fonts in word processing your too.
error message when deleting fonts: Access denied
I cannot delete installed fonts because a error message "Access denied" appears.
Your Typograf version i too old. Please update your Typograf.

I search a font. How to find a font on a drive?
Choose Search font of duplicates from the File menu. Type a part of the font name, copyright, vendor or any other information you are searching (for example ria) an click Continue button.
If you search for displayed fonts in the Typograf windows Typograf searches for all fonts containing the letters ria. (for example Typograf finds the font Arial).
If you search for fonts on disk Typograf will start the Windows Search-Engine. Click Find Now and drag and drop the found fonts to the Typograf Windows.

How find I font duplicates on my computer?
Choose Search font of duplicates from the File menu. Choose a criterion. Fonts will be searched according to that criterion. Click Action button to see or delete fonts.
If You select Only Font structur, Typograf will find all font duplicates even if fonts have other Names, Copyright, Trademark, Vendor or Identification.
program errors when moving fonts
If I move fonts a error message appears: "A error was occurred. To continue ..."
Cause is a too strongly performed graphics board. Click in the Windows system control on display. Please reduce the performance of the graphics board from "maximum" to "50%".
Zip drive problems
I want to save fonts on my Zip drive. Only 250 entries are possibly on main/root directory of my Zip drive.
Please, create subdirectories (e.g. font family, first letter).
bug because there is no installed printer
Typograf will not start saying that the printer is incorrect. Once it does
start I get the scrolling banner saying how many days I have used the
program. Then I put in my registration number and it says that the
printer is not correct. What can I do to fix this problem?
Please click the windows start button. Then click settings -> printer and install a simple universal/only text printer as standard printer. Then the program runs, displays all fonts and the registration will be successfully. Then you can change the fonts settings. If you don't have installed a printer, Windows cannot use TrueType fonts. And Typograf cannot use TrueType fonts.
If you have a printer, please delete the files typograf.ini and fullversion.ini (if existed) in the Typograf directory. After that please start and unlock Typograf.
hide the message box at start of the Quick access for font groups
A message box appears at every start of the Quick access for font groups
How can I hide that message box?
In the file "typograf.ini" which you find in the Typograf directory
add the following two lines:

Hint= 0
Then the message box appears no more.
If you unlock the current version there is no message box.
some fonts in the font groups aren't displayed
There aren't all fonts of a font group displayed in the font management window.
Please open the file inhalt.sg (in directory c:\program files\Typograf\fontgroups\GroupName) with the Windows editor. Search in this text file after the string ""=. Delete the line which e.g. reads so: ""=c:DateiName.ttf. Save the file now. Typograf shows you all fonts, which are listed after the deleted line.
Please update your Typograf.
color of the help window
The background color of some topic is blue and yellow. I cannot read the text.
Please run the Typograf help. Click the options button in the button bar of the help window.
A check mark is in front of the option "use system colors" . Click on this option to deactivate it.
Typograf cannot find internet Browser
I click in the HELP menu on internet topics, a message appears that Typograf cannot find any Browser.
Typograf couldn't find your Browser because HTML files aren't connected with with your browser. You can make this yourself: Start the Windows-Explorer and click in the view menu on options. Click on file types tab. Then click the "New" button.
invalid data type for "serial number"
When I open the program I get a message: Invalid data type for
"serial number".
Please download
the latest version. copy the expanded files into your extisting Typograf directory.
If the error occurs still, there seems to be a wrong entry in your registry. Please click the Windows Start button and the "Run...". Then run regedit.exe and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Fonts
or HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Fonts (Windows NT)
Do you see an entry "SerialNumber" in the font section? Please delete that entry. After that please close regedit.
Please delete the *.ini files typograf.ini and fullversion.ini which you find in the Typograf directory (for example c:\program files\Typograf)
Then you can unlock Typograf. Typograf closes itself. Then you have to reboot Windows. After than you can run Typograf as fullversion.
List Index Out of Bounds
error message "List Index Out of Bounds (0)"
Please update your Typograf version. If that doesn't work, please delete the ini file typograf.ini in your Typograf directory (for example c:\program files\Typograf). Perhaps you have to unlock Typograf again.
user name and password for Typograf internet resources wrong
I have no access to the Typograf internet resources with the given user names and password.
Please enter the data once again after a failed trial.
If this doesn't work, please exchange both words.
Copying Typograf on a new computer
I have a new computer. How can I copy Typograf to the new PC?
Copy the complete Typograf directory (z.B. c:\program files\typograf) to the new computer.
Please don't forget the subdirectories "database" and "fontgroups". These subdirectories are created if you use the font management. If you put fonts in the "database" or "fontgroups", which are now on a other disk (other disk letter or directory), you have to renew the entries:
The subdirectories "database" and "fontgroups" contain subdirectories again. These subdirectories correspond to created database folder and font groups. You find a text file "inhalt.sg" in all subdirectories. Please open the file with the Windows editor (Notepad.exe). Replace the old font directories with the new directories on the new computer.
After the first Typograf start, you have to unlock Typograf with your registration data.
viewing the Euro character with Typograf
How can I preview the character for the Euro, the European Community currency?
Please click the setting button in the Typograf symbol bar. Enter the euro character in the text example. To do this you press the key combination Alt Gr + E.
If your Windows don't support the Euro character, then download the Microsoft patch for free.

Typograf for Mac or Linux?
Is there a Typograf version also for the Macintosh or for Linux?
Typograf is only for Windows 95/98/NT/2000. If Inprise publishes a Delphi compiler for Linux, could it also give Typograf for Linux. Sorry, it doesn't exist a version for Mac.

Typograf loses registering data
I must often enter the registering key newly because Typograf always switches to the shareware version
The following approach helps here
1) Update to the latest version!
2) Run the Typograf.
3) On Help menu click Info item.
4) Press the F2 key.
5) Click OK button on the messagebox.
6) Run the program again.
7) Enter the Name and Code in the registration dialog EXACTLY (also address) as shown in the information sent to you.

Why have some fonts no no lower case letters?
For editing fonts please try following software:

type designer, (60 Euro), FontLab, ($300), or Fontographer
($400), this is contained in Freehand. Corel Draw 4.0 and later allows editing TrueType fonts.

In several fonts some character are missing, because the font developer didn't put these character in the font. To see all character of a font, click the Properties button. Then click the ANSI tab.
Windows Fonts folder doesn't work any more
There are no font names only file names in the folder Windows\Fonts.
No fonts cannot be installed or compared in the system control.
The problem that the font folder behaves like a normal folder is known to Mircosoft. Therefore you can download the Powertoys on the Microsoft server free of charge, which repairs the Font-Odner.

the following Windows trick helps if you have some problems with (de)installed fonts:
Start the Windows-Explorer and go to the directory c:\Windows\Fonts. If you select this folder, the Windows-Explorer cleans your Registry of faulty Font entries
That trick is recommendably, because font problems are overcome without risk.

Please be sure that you have installed the fonts Arial and Marlett (check this using Typograf). If not, please install these fonts. You can download the latest versions from the Microsoft server free of charge.
If the problem isn't solved, please check the automatic font substitution of Windows. Please open the file win.ini which you find in the Windows directory. You can change to the Windows folder and click twice on the file to open this with the Explorer. Search for the section [FontSubstitutes]. The lines usually stand there:

Please try that, if the font MS Sans Serif is missing:
