Process name: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 Messages

Company: Microsoft (microsoft.com)
The "DLL" name extension on this module indicates it is a Dynamic Link Library which is an executable file that cannot be called directly, but only from within other Microsoft Windows executable files. This library file stores graphical and text resources needed by routines within Microsoft Windows XP. These resources are icons, cursors, dialog boxes, HTML related strings, and messages. The resources in this DLL may have been introduced during fixes issued by Microsoft to Windows XP at almost any time since Service Pack 2 was released, because a Microsoft Service Pack is simply a massive recapitulation of "hotfixes" and other fixes issued since the previous SP. This filename can be found included in multiple download files released for Microsoft updates, or for software packages such as the Network Diagnostics for Windows XP, but the version number of the file may be different from one update release to the next because Windows XP will keep looking to this library file for resources but Microsoft may have added or altered resources gradually during the updating process. The file version number associated with the actual release of Service Pack 3 would therefore be the most recent. This file has occasionally been involved in messages issued during failures to install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3, which appeared to be due to an error in the installer, which could not put "xpsp3res.dll" into "C:\Windows\system32\mui\0414\", because it had created "mui" and "0414" as files with no name extensions, (such as ".dll"), not as subdirectories. This happened for other files installed by Service Pack 3 in other subdirectories also. The matter was able to be resolved by renaming the unwanted files as "mui.old" and "0414.old", in this case, so that they could be properly re-created as subdirectories. Before downloading or installing Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3, the user should be advised that Microsoft has ended support for Windows XP as of March 2014. If you want a detailed security rating about your xpsp3res.dll (and all other running background processes) read the following user opinions, and download the free trial version of Security Task Manager.
Note: Any malware can be named anything - so you should check where the files of the running processes are located on your disk. If a "non-Microsoft" .exe file is located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, then there is a high risk for a virus, spyware, trojan or worm infection! Check it out!
