Saulo Gonzaga If the MS Word is not runninig and this process appears on the table it's certainly a Trojan (Password Keeper). I Got one of these in my computer this week and removed it.
aaron it is NOT a virus if its in all caps!! even if you don't have word, it runs when u run outlook.
choekstr That is incorrect about winword.exe being in all caps and being a virus. I have an un-networked PC I just installed with a fresh copy of Office 2k3 and it has winword.exe in all caps. It is always capitalized and is even all caps in Office 2007 Beta2! Please do not spread F.U.D. if you do not know for sure.
eat2thepieseye It starts automatically when I log on to my computer and it always uses between 90 and 100 percent of my CPU.
dude If you have Microsoft Outlook set to use Word as your default e-mail editor then winword.exe will run when Outlook runs. To change Outlook mail settings open Outlook and click tools/options; click the mail format tab at the top of the box that pops up; uncheck the "use Microsoft Office Word to edit e-mails" box. The process should stop running when you restart Outlook.
Karyana don't choose ms-word as mail editor and reader, it will stop launch winword.exe when you open outlook
Mike To configure Outlook *not* to create an instance of Winword, go to Tools Options Mail Format and make sure that *both* the "Use MS Word..." checkboxes are unchecked
WINWORD.EXE in capital letters comes up when I am NOT running Outlook and is identified as a risk
Jdp This runs with office 2003 applications. It should close when you close your office app. (even if it is in CAPS!)
Fernando. All I know that as soon as I ended this prosses my CPU usage went down so quick from 100% to 7%.
Samd I found this running even tho Word and Outlook weren't (haven't even got Outlook). It was using up over 50% usage and made the CPU fan run wild. I am not sure where it came from.
Hogan1 Are you using word as your email editor, that's why it runs even tho Word was not launched.
BeefCake Run with MS Word and Outlook, resource hog. can potentially be a virus but usually isn't.
Tyn Outlook using Word2003 as a mail editor (To remove, Tools- Options~Mail Format, Uncheck Use MSO Word 2003...)
