Some Thinkpad computers (formerly made by IBM, now by the company Lenovo) do not have an indicator light on the keyboard to indicate when the Scroll Lock key has been activated. On these machines, this small process controls a system tray status icon that conveys the same information. Obviously not system critical, but terminating it could lead to some confusion if you press the Scroll Lock key by accident.
