Developers of desktop application programs that run in Microsoft's Common Language Runtime (CLR) environment require sophisticated debuggers that can debug "managed" code. Microsoft created a publicly-available Application Programmer Interface (API) called ICorDebug so that third-party developers or other Microsoft project teams, such as Visual Studio, could create debugging tools compatible with the CLR to assist application developers. This API is implemented in the dynamic link library named "mscordbi.dll". A dynamic link library is a file containing executable code which can be summoned from other Microsoft executable files as part of a larger program. Because of the complexity of developing and releasing progressive version levels of both the Common Language Runtime (CLR) and a debugger, Microsoft requires that the version of ICorDebug in mscordbi.dll must match the version of the CRL environment itself, (which is in mscorwks.dll). Mismatched versions will result in error messages when trying to use the debugger.During the creation of this API, Microsoft developers released at least two less sophisticated debuggers, such as Cordbg.exe, so that programmers creating applications for the CRL would have something to use. These earlier versions are no longer supported and have been entirely replaced by ICorDebug.Microsoft Visual Studio is an ICorDebug-based debugger that is able to debug dump-files of applications designed for Microsoft's .NET environment. Note: Any malware can be named anything - so you should check where the files of the running processes are located on your disk. If a "non-Microsoft" .exe file is located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, then there is a high risk for a virus, spyware, trojan or worm infection! Check it out!
