"htpatch.exe" is a component of the SiS AGP patch utility, which seems to be useful on relevant systems only when the system processor supports HyperThreading.
Get more detailed information about htpatch.exe and all other running background processes with Security Task Manager.
Note: Any malware can be named anything - so you should check where the files of the running processes are located on your disk.
If a "non-Microsoft" .exe file is located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, then there is a high risk for a virus, spyware, trojan or worm infection!

| it is a agp driver for a sis motherboard but if you dont have a pentium then it can cause problems with internet explorer and windows media player. jimbob |
| if you dont have hyperthreading, it does nothing. it just sits there and takes up ram. it might slow down your comptuer a tad if you dont have a lot of ram. thats about it. dmt408 |
| I agree with Mirek's assessment of nuisance factor. Search your mainboard's AGP driver installer folders for "HTpatch*" There may be a "HTuninst.exe" file in the same folder. Run the HTuninst.exe to cleanly uninstall HTpatch.exe references from the windows registry. C:\windows\htpatch.exe file will not be deleted but that is harmless to leave around. | file is not detected as an infection by almost all antivirus softwares. BUT by purging the file from many systems helps me terminate many issues like slow systems. also i noticed that many systems infected by a spyware are containing the htpatch.exe file. One of the system i fixed was fixed by renaming a copy of any txt file by htpatch.exe right after deleting the real .exe file. the spyware just stop regenarating after that manipulation of the htpatch.exe file. steve c. |
