Process name: Microsoft SharePoint Workspace, (formerly Microsoft Office Groove)
Product: Microsoft SharePoint Workspace
Company: Microsoft (microsoft.com)
The GrooveMonitor was the running process governing transactions for sharing and using files in Microsoft Office Groove 2007. This is the executable filename for the Groove System Services Module.Groove was productivity software originally created by Groove Networks, founded in 1997 in Beverly, MA, USA, by Ray Ozzie, the creator of IBM's Lotus Notes application. It allowed multiple users to work collaboratively on files at the same time. Microsoft acquired Groove Networks in 2005, keeping Ray Ozzie as a key technical executive, and marketed it first as Microsoft Office Groove and then as Microsoft SharePoint Workspace, formerly included with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Office 365. It was discontinued by the time Office 2013 was released. Office 365 now includes Microsoft OneDrive for Business instead, which does not fully replace Groove's functionality. The key advantage of SharePoint Workspace was allowing document collaboration in teams whose members had differing network security levels or different security setups, (for example, emergency relief agencies needing to coordinate efforts), or who just were often offline. The GrooveShellExtensions.dll module may be left behind and appear under AutoRuns on machines where Microsoft Office 2007 was in use and the Groove function was uninstalled. If you want a detailed security rating about your GrooveShellExtensions.dll (and all other running background processes) read the following user opinions, and download the free trial version of Security Task Manager.
Note: Any malware can be named anything - so you should check where the files of the running processes are located on your disk. If a "non-Microsoft" .exe file is located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, then there is a high risk for a virus, spyware, trojan or worm infection! Check it out!
