It is located in a folder named "backweb" Note: backWeb.exe is a process associated with an application from Backweb Technologies. It comes bundled together with a large number of desktops and is used to detect and download available updates. So i think it's just for downloading updates.  See also: Link

stardust I found fspex in my Charter Communications securety suite. I found it because on start up, it pops up as an error message-missing "-" id separator

Timppa from finland I downloaded AmericasArmy250.exe and it got my computer tilt! then I realized that its somekind of virus. I tried to delete it normally but it didt sucess because it was under some other process. Then I terminated all processes exept taskmngr.exe and system processes. Only fspex.exe did come back all the time. then I terminated the processtree. It helped an I got the AmericasArmy250.exe deleted. now my computer works as usually.

It is definately to do with f-secure antivirus. It is an automatic updater for F-secure, so essential if you want to stay updated.

eugenkluge ich habe F-secure deinstalliert und neu installiert, der Fehler war dann weg.
Tony It is a part of the Charter High Speed Security Suite and should not be deleted from your startup as long as you use Charter Security suite.
