File: avp.exe

avp.exe, the process behind the Kaspersky AntiVirus and Internet Security brand names offers security services against virus, trojans, spyware and malware in addition to an optional personal firewall. The process starts along with the Operating System and running in the background, it continuously checks for updates and installs them as needed.http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/avp.exe.html

If you want a detailed security rating about your avp.exe (and all other running background processes) read the following user opinions, and download the free trial version of Security Task Manager.

Note: Any malware can be named anything - so you should check where the files of the running processes are located on your disk. If a "non-Microsoft" .exe file is located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, then there is a high risk for a virus, spyware, trojan or worm infection! Check it out!

rate4 Found in the "system32" but I do not have any McAfee antivirus products... i "found" it when Kerio started shouting something like avp.exe is connecting somewhere "outgoing connection"
rate5 its not kaspersky when its in root   cgc
rate1 It is an anti-virus. Tends to not like to interact well with other firewalls though, and like all anti-virus you shouldn't have 2 different types installed or else they'll conflict.  See also: Link
rate2 Related to Kaspersky

rate5 I'm not running Kapersky, but I have it. If it's located in c:\windows, stop stop the process and just delete it. Remove it from the registry. And keep it from starting up in msconfig. Also remove syswin.exe, syswin6000.exe, iun6002.exe, and mgrs.exe.   Say Xiong
rate3 I got this file attacking my regestry files when I downloaded something on the net, I believe it may of been some kind of trojen disguised as avp.exe. I managed to eraise it from my windows directly along with msgr that was doing the same thing. I don't think its essential but if you don't have Kasperky like I don,t I believe it could be dangerous and would advise to remove it immedietly   Taishi
rate1 Um òtimo antivirus.   joseh_rio
rate5 It was resident in the C:\Windows\system32 directory and seemed to be a dodgy file as windows would not delete it and it did not say where it was from. I did not have Kaspersy loaded but when I did install Kaspersky, yes there was a file with the same name in the program folder, too. It is a different and new file. The previous one I am sure is malicious, but if it lives in Kaspersky it is part of the program.... I still have virus/worm trouble atm and Kaspasky is finding a few resident, but one of them just killed Kaspersky dead. Bugger,   Grace
rate0 norton keeps bringing it up as a virus notification and does not stop notification - constant popup windows. Quarantined but still a nuisance

rate0 I no longer have the antivirus installed but this file is still running on my system   BH
rate5 It might be kapersky anti virus shield but it can also be a trojan process...tht disguise as AVP.exe   fury777
rate0 Interrupts print commands for common controllers, causes over 50% CPU usage. Reccomend different suite if doing printing to HP or Copiers   Bob
rate0 I have about 20 of these running in my task manager, and I dont have kapersky at all. My computer is running extra slow as well.   Kontra
rate5 Avp is present on my computer in c:/windows/. I've never had kaspersky installed so I'm pretty sure it's malware disguising itself.   Mark

rate1 It was and still is (To my knowlege) the best security for windows users. Though there has been some hype about source code that was stolen some three years ago. I stumbled across a forum discussing the incident. The moderator in the link brings up a good point that "if this was such a big news story then why has this not meant complete exploitation of Kaspersky products in those two years?" I've never heard anything bad about kaspersky labs since that incident. As to the question is avp.exe malicous? No, it is not.  See also: Link   Dweller
rate4 Something related to antivirus kas and slows down connection   Edwin
rate0 my computer is being real slow and not uninstalling kaspersky so avp.exe is eating up my ram
rate0 It is the last thing to close down when turning the computer off. Computer has slowed down terribly recently, although I have been running Kaspersky for years.   trev

rate5 so I buy a security program so my PC will not get infected by a program which runs all the time and makes it REALLY SLOW. But wait the security program from kaspersky DOES THIS with avp.exe 32. Kaspersky SUCKS !!! Lousy product !! Just googel avp.exe and see all the problems people have with kaspersky !   murphy
rate1 Kaspersky Anti-Virus/Internet Secutiy
rate1 It is Kaspersky process.   Silent
rate0 slows down my computer making it unusable   William
rate1 If anyone having problem with their mouse showing busy signal is because kaspersky is checking on updates automatically and to frequent. So to stop the update and busy signal mouse from showing up is to set the update in kaspersky to manual instead of auto. Thats what i figured which works for me!
