rate4 It is suppose to scan emails (in/out) but because it keeps running even when the email software is 'off', it is clear that it is performing some 'extra curriculum' activitaties. It could very well be reporting 'key words' content on the emails back to Grisoft (who makes AVG) - nothing is free - so it would not surprise me   Mr. Mike PC
rate1 its an email scanner, but lately its been funning my cpu 100%   mikey_albany
rate4 This file is part of AVG (Email scanner for Microsoft Exchange Server). It takes up huge amounts of processor time (between 50% and 98%) when a new email is delivered via Microsoft Exchange POP server.   Lloyd D
rate0 cause 100% CPU memory use. After disabling, CPU memory use is back to normal   Thomas
rate4 It depends. Something a lot of people don't know is that when you install avg for free, it permanently writes itself into your registry. So say you decide to finally buy "Kaspersky" or some other security suite. Because avg wrote itself into your registry it is now impossible for you to switch to any other anti-virus. Personally avg is a pain. It's slow to the point its meaning less to scan, its free (Ie you get what you pay for), and there is the registry issue. The only way to completely uninstall it is to wipe your drives and start over. Wouldn't you call that malicious?  See also: Link   Dweller
