rate4 I actually have another anti-virus program, McAfee Virus-Scan Enterprise(althogh my subscription expired and I did not renew it). Even though it hadn't been updated, it ran an automatic scan and picked up avgamsvr.exe as a Trojan. It might be a false alarm, but I'm not entirely sure.
rate1 as ticker said, also a very small resource hog   Cpt_Howdy
rate1 part of an anti-virus program. anti-virus programs sometimes report other anti-virus programs as viruses or trojans.

rate1 It would only be using a lot of the CPU if the scanner was currently running. If it says 98% and the scanner isn't running, check that it's not another file NAMED the same as AVG   Nancy
rate2 It chugs system. Wish my company didn't make us have it installed with current configuration. When used with Outlook it drains performance, often consuming 45-50% of CPU cycles (XP, Dual 2.66 GHx Xeon, 2GB RAM)   RandomAccess
rate4 It make momery problem. its file size is directly propertional to time. I am using Adobe Illustrator 10, which required some memory spaces. Thats why it makes problem while we want to load any other program like Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, Corel Draw and so on. Because they required memeory but avgamsvr.exe occupy too much memory spaces continuously.   Chandresh Kesri
rate1 safe, part of AVG, uses a lot of OS paged pool memory though, can cause crashes with source based games  See also: Link   Dan
rate4 It is loaded on my computer and blocks my SMTP server. If I use the task manager to stop it from running, my email (Outlook 2003) works great.   Daniel L. McGrew
rate0 It slows down my computer during the update process. You can avoid the slowdown by rebooting as soon as the update file is 100% downloaded.   dave
rate1 Recommended to me by professional computer repairer   Granpa
rate5 It is part of AVG's antivirus programs and it is impossible to remove even using AVG's removal tool. It is dangerous because it can interfere with the functioning of other anti-virus programs like McAfee. Due to it being hard to completely uninstall AVG, I advise others to never ever use their software. Ever.   Anthony Barnes
